A Weekend in Basel

Life has been hectic since I started up at Cambridge for my master's course in the history & philosophy of science- it's always a challenge figuring out a new routine and working out how to balance your academic and personal life within it. Even though the experience has been fun so far,  it was nice to get away last weekend for a family trip to Basel, Switzerland.

Of course, being in the presence of my lovely sister/muse always makes me want to pick up my camera and get shooting- especially when she's looking as stylish as she did during our trip. So before we headed out each day, I insisted on grabbing a couple of shots.

Side note: I'm kind of obsessed with this hat. It's a great hat. It makes me want to wear a hat on a regular basis, even though I'm by no means stylish enough to pull it off. Hats I've worn in the past include: baseball caps, beanies, and a fur hat I was very excited to buy at a market in Mongolia, but then upon returning home realized was not actually appropriate to wear in public. None of those come close to this greatness of this hat.

The hat is so great that she wore it again the next day, and still looked flawless, because hey, how can you really go wrong? I love two things about this image: firstly, that getting her whole body in the shot does justice to the fact that she's 5'11", and secondly, that the bokeh gives it a Christmassy feeling, and that in turn makes me insanely excited to be in Europe for part of Deceber this year- nothing says "holiday season" like Christmas markets and Glühwein!
