My name is Aleka Gürel and I'm currently based in San Francisco, California. I'm passionate about increasing access to health care, particularly within the reproductive health space. When I'm not at work, I'm an obsessive foodie and baker, as well as a keen writer and photographer.
Before I moved to the Bay Area, I completed a masters in history of science at the University of Cambridge, where my research focused primarily on 19th & 20th century pregnancy, childbirth and reproductive medicine. As an undergraduate, I studied history, gender studies, and Brazilian studies at Princeton University. For a list of my published writing, please see here. I also infrequently post more casual writings on my wordpress blog.
My background is in photojournalism and event photography, and I especially love photographing sports. My photography has appeared in The Daily Princetonian, the Princeton Alumni Weekly, Town Topics and at Wired.com. To contact me about covering an event or arranging a portrait session, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
