My name is Aleka Gürel and I'm a research analyst at Beyond the Pill, a program of the UCSF Bixby Center. I'm passionate about evidence-based policy and effectively translating scientific findings into plain English, especially when it comes to reproductive health. When I'm not at work, I'm a keen photographer and writer, as well as an obsessive foodie.
Before I moved to the Bay Area, I completed a masters in history of science at the University of Cambridge, where my research focused primarily on 19th & 20th century pregnancy, childbirth and reproductive medicine. As an undergraduate, I studied history, gender studies, and Brazilian studies at Princeton University. For a list of my published writing, please see here. I also infrequently post more casual writings on my wordpress blog.
My background is in photojournalism and event photography, and I especially love photographing sports. My photography has appeared in The Daily Princetonian, the Princeton Alumni Weekly, Town Topics and at Wired.com. To contact me about covering an event or arranging a portrait session, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
